Regina Kinghas brought high-shine glamour all awards season — first with a shimmering Louis Vuitton gownat the Golden Globes, then with a sequin-embellished Versace dressat the Critics Choice— and capped it all off at the 2021Academy Awardsin yet another statement-making, super-glam creation.
The actress and director, 50, arrived at the red carpet in a custom duchess satin Louis Vuitton curve-hugging gown with exaggerated shoulders and neckline, all-over crystal embroidery and scalloped hem. Below: a behind-the-scenes look at a beaming – and dancing – King pre-carpet!

King’s go-to stylistsWayman BannermanandMicah McDonaldtell PEOPLE exclusively that the gown, “is the proper send off for the awards season.”
“This look screams grand finale, it’s opulent, it glamorous, and it’s the joy we wanted to evoke among the many viewers! It’s really a fantasy brought to life,” Bannerman and McDonald say.
The duo collaborated with Louis Vuitton creative director Nicolas Ghesquièr on the confection.

The process started in January. In the months that followed, the complex embroidery – composed of 62, 000 sequins and 80 meters of chain stitching – alone took over 140 hours to complete.

“We were thrilled to partner with [them as well]. Choosing diamonds that shine as brightly as Regina isn’t easy but we feel we came pretty close! We selected silhouettes that felt fresh and modern while still leaning into the traditional glamour ofthe Oscars.”
Her cool blue eyeshadow and subtle pink lip coordinated with the shimmery pastel vibes of the gown. She styled her hair in an angled bob to complement the architectural vibes of her dress’s strong shoulders King’s stylists shared a close-up angle of the gorgeous gown onInstagramwhile “chillin'” in the hotel room.
“It’s always a party! We ensure the pressure is far and distant during dressings,” they say. “The goal is to have Regina at ease and relaxed to be her best glamorous self on the red carpet. The music is usually a feel good playlist which has us all cheerful.”
The regal gown follows a slew of strong style statements King has made throughout award season.

Chose aglamorous Oscar de la Renta burnt orange ruched mini dresswith dramatic cape for the NAACP Image Awards. And most recently wore astatuesque strapless orange Christopher John Rogers gownat the Costume Designers Guild Awards, which she paired with Bulgari jewels.
King has been making the awards show rounds for her directorial debut,One Night in Miami. She made history as the second Black woman in history to earn a Golden Globe nomination for best director. She is also the fifth Black filmmaker to be nominated in the category overall, perIndieWire.
The film is up for three Oscars, including Best Supporting Actor for Leslie Odom Jr.’s performance, Best Original Song for “Speak Now” and Best Adapted Screenplay.
Though King also has an Oscar under her belt, the actress recentlytold PEOPLEthat she feels like people in Hollywood are only now really starting to take notice of her work.
“Maybe now that I’m in my 40s, people in positions of power are recognizing it,” she said. “But everything I’ve ever approached, I’ve approached powerfully.”
