IFLScience has never been one to coo over otter , which can be some of the biggest douchebags in the animal land . sure enough , they may look cute , but they are no strangers to dastardly human activity like kidnapping baby otters and holding them ransom for food . But hey , they drive ta eat , right ? Otters are carnivore that need to rust about a after part of their organic structure exercising weight every single daytime . Though it may seem surprising , otter are typically the apex predators or very near the top .
Reptile expert Terry Phillip was approach by National Geographic tocomment on the legitimacyof the encounter . He stated that this eccentric of event would be fairly common where otters and alligator occupy the same environment . He reckon that the alligator is about four years old and 1.5 meters ( 5 understructure ) in distance . The otter , on the other hand , probably weighs about 13.6 kilograms ( 30 Ezra Loomis Pound ) . Attacking the back of the alligator ’s cervix keeps it out of reach from the teeth . However , the otter does n’t kill the gator itself .
Alligators are largely sedentary , though they are able-bodied to employ nimble bursts of movement in ordering to catch prey or nullify it . The downside is that this degree of push can not be sustained . As long as the otter holds on wet , it just has to wait for the gator to wear itself out , which does n’t take long . Eventually , the gator ’s body has too much lactic acid ( the chemical substance that makes your brawniness “ cut ” after exercising ) and it entirely fatigues and conk . The otter then takes it on land where it can more easily rive it apart and corrode it .

These pictures show the otter carefully stay out from the teeth , until the alligator in the end conk wilted . Though the lensman lost batch of the animals moments after the final delineation , the ottercould be heardmunching on the alligator short after .
