Here ’s the good news program : In the pantheon of Heroes telecasting , Heroes Reborn is actually all right . It was n’t nearly as gripping as the original show ’s zeitgeist - grabbing first time of year , but it also was n’t as terrible and/or slow as the show ’s godawful 2nd , third , and 4th season .
The uncollectible news is that this intend Heroes Reborn is still pretty second-rate . But if , like me , you were expect full tragedy , you may have ended last dark ’s two - time of day premiere with the pleasant surprisal that you did n’t want to kill yourself to make the pain stop .
Heroes Reborn ’s smartest move is that it jettisons the incomprehensible yet moronic mythology it prepare over the original series . Instead , it in the main focus on a new assortment of characters and a unexampled premise ( well , new for Heroes , at least ): those with superpowers are dread and hunted by the government , but also by a shadowy organisation that seems to have more nefarious goals in mind . Of Heroes ’ original stars , only HRG seems to be a main participant , who discovers the conspiracy and start trying to unravel it .
The two - time of day premiere was mainly concerned with introducing the new cast and their specific issues : Here are the new characters you necessitate to get it on :
Tommy — A mellow shoal nestling with the most standard high school problem of all time : A ruffian , a puppy love on the bully ’s girl Emily , and superpowers he ca n’t let anyone know he has ( he can teleport things , although he originally does n’t know to where ) . So now they ’re hunting down EVOs and murdering them , because they recall people with powers are too dangerous to exist . When they seek to kill Tommy , he teleports them to Primatech ( where he apparently rise up ? ) but there they discover a giant list of mass with powers to kill .
Molly Walker — A redhead introduced at 1:22 in the two - hour premiere who seems to be a not particularly skilled con woman . Her power is that she can locate anyone by thinking of them ( plain , her character was on the original series as a child ; Primatech used her to bump citizenry with business leader ) . HRG is search for her to see if she can get hold Claire , who he thought died in the Odessa meridian explosion , but maybe did n’t ?
Quentin — A pudgy , nerdy type who wants to find out what really happen at the human / EVO meridian a yr ago and why it exploded ( purportedly Mohinder from the original serial took credit for the terrorist attack , which , even if he did n’t do it , make Mohinder more interesting than he ever was on the original series . ) He tracks down HRG and unite him as they seek for the trueness .
Miko — A Japanese girlfriend endure alone in a foreign flat . In Heroes Reborn ’s most ridiculous storyline , she’s — and this is n’t going to make any sense but bear with me — the girl of a guy who create a MMORPG called EverNow , but somehow does n’t know she ’s the inspiration for a secret character in the game named “ Katana Girl . ” She enters a elbow room in her flat where her pa maybe put to work , as if she ’d never been in the room before , and observe a sword . When she unsheathes the sword , she is send Tron - dash into EverNow , where it turns out her papa is being imprisoned . I believe Heroes Reborn think being able to enter what is obviously a retail videogame is a superintendent - power , which is madness , but more on this in a minute .

None of these characters are plump to win any originality competition , and yes , the show seems to be throwing a whole atomic pile of plots at the viewer , hoping one will be intriguing enough to nonplus around for : Who ’s hunt the zep ? What is this threatening event that ’s come in ? Is Claire alive , i.e. , did NBC have enough money to convince Hayden Panetierre to invitee star ?
But again , I was mentally fain for Heroes Reborn to be as uncollectible as Heroes used to be , which mean its modicum of quality came as a pleasant surprise . I ’m not that adorn in the new characters , but I also do n’t hate them , which is a major improvement . I ’m not stunned by the vicious secret organization or the vague close at hand Book of Revelation , but I understand them , and the Petrelli family does n’t seem to be involved , so I ’m willing to see how they play out .
And most of all , I ’m thrilled that the show has invalidate bank on its previous avatar for goodwill . I amply expected that Heroes Reborn would transmit out a parade of previous Heroes , each sentence presented as a momentous return , as if the reaching of classic characters like Mohinder or Parkman or Mama Petrelli were somehow in and of itself interesting , as if anyone wish about their character or even liked them . I also expected the show to try and build on its previous mythology , under the misguided feeling that multitude had nothing but pleasant memory of the original Heroes series , and that it was n’t a savage , torturous disaster for 75 % of its world . But Reborn did n’t do that ! It has HRG as a main fibre , but his memory has been pass over by the Haitian ( the only other original persona who makes an appearance in the first two installment ) , which provides him with a personal mystery to puzzle out , but also helpfully wipe out all the continuity rabies that made the first series unwatchable .
unluckily , there ’s still plenty of time for Heroes Reborn to fall in this trap . There ’s plenty of way leave for creator Tim Kring to make the same mistakes — for characters to change motivations and personality haphazardly , for the story to have no comforting ending , or for a persona to shortly become a roach for a while .
But as of last nighttime , Heroes Reborn was actually inoffensively watchable . It was n’t good , of necessity , but it also was not godawful . I , for one , was pleasantly surprised .

• All I really desire to speak about here is Miko ’s storyline , which is the dumbest thing I ’ve watch since Hiro ’s dead mom kissed him in a dream and cure his inoperable brain tumour .

• In fact , Miko ’s steel may be as if by magic transporting her into the game ; the only ground I think it might be a super - king is because this is ostensibly a show about people super - powers . I have no idea which solution is less dumb .
• I also do n’t understand anything demand Miko . So her dad create this super - democratic biz , but she did n’t know about it ? Even though one of the secret plan ’s main fictional character is modeled after her ? And she never give way in her dad ’s office despite never leaving her apartment ? Even after her dad disappeared ? What the hell ?
• All that said , it ’s still right smart safe than any Hiro storyline from Heroes season 2 - 4 .
