LibraryThing ’s skill fabrication grouping had a great give-and-take about “ incorrect book , wrong time ” situation , where you hate a book , but much later , you rediscover it and fall in lovemaking . What book are you happy you gave a second chance to ?
Not surprisingly , a tidy sum of the books people are listing in that thread are ones that might not work as well for younger lecturer , like J.G. Ballard ’s works , Ursula Le Guin ’s The Left Hand Of wickedness , and A Canticle For Leibowitz . ( The last of those , by the bye , was assigned in school , thus proving that any book immediately becomes horrendous when it ’s a school grant , whether it ’s a 200 - year - old literary tome or a science fabrication classic . ) But there ’s also Dune , which just did n’t work for someone the first prison term out , and the works of Harry Harrison and Harlan Ellison . ( The screw thread degenerates a bit into whop Ellison and Asimov , towards the ending . Fair admonition . )
Which books have you tried and go wrong to appreciate , then total back to and come upon a new appreciation for after ? [ Library Thing ]
