It seems Google is depend that it can leverage its status and huge nucleotide of substance abuser to strong-arm some of the most ill-famed bullies out there : the recording diligence . Google Music has been stick in a closed Beta because Google has n’t been able to root on deals with the four major record labels . Sony Music Entertainment is holding out , citing business concern that Google is n’t doing enough to control piracy on YouTube and in apps on Google ’s Android OS . Warner Music apparently think it ’s getting low - balled by Google . While Google is extend huge up - front licensing deals to the labels , Warner wants some sexual love on the back - end as well — Google Music ’s storage locker is free and does n’t return any revenue whereas Apple ’s comparable servicing , iTunes Match , costs $ 25 per class . Google says that MP3 downloads from Google Music will be enough to cover the deviation .

It ’s a risky play by Google to declare oneself what it knows is an incomplete service to the general public when much of the contention is up and running without a hobble . [ The Wall Street Journal ]
