A Georgia mother says a pair of middle school teachers harassed her 14-year-old son and implied that he is gay, subjecting him to ridicule from his classmates.

“The teacher said to my son, ‘Your boyfriend was cheating on you while you were away,’ ” Mott recalled to the station. ” ‘Oh, you two make a really good couple.’ ”

“At the end of the day, I’m concerned about the kids,” Mott said. “Not just my son, but anyone else’s child who may encounter a similar situation.”

Mott told NBC the teachers were suspended for two days. However, Bernard Watson, a spokesman for Gwinnett County Public Schools, told PEOPLE that “nobody was suspended” but “disciplinary action was taken against both teachers.”

Watson said the school’s Title IX administrator and the district’s human resources department investigated the incident and found the teachers’ conduct to be inappropriate, but did not comment on whether or not the teachers admitted to the allegations.

“The two teachers no longer are teaching the student and the family has been offered the opportunity to transfer the student to another school through the permissive transfer process,” Watson said in a statement.

Additionally, the Georgia Professional Standards Commission will investigate the incident to determine whether the teachers will lose their education certificates, Watson said. However, Mott told NBC that she wants the teachers to be fired.

“Teachers are supposed to be the first line of defense against bullying,” Mott told the outlet. “And instead, the teachers initiated the bullying against my son and the other young man.”
