Fringe gives us a series of Earth(s)-shattering decisions!

Wow . Fringe ’s warfare between universes turned blooming last Nox . Both Walters decide to make some major sacrifice , and both Olivias face some sturdy selection . interference fringe is once again an epic dramatic event . Spoilers ahead …

To be honest , I was start to forget just how good Fringe can be when all the cylinders are fire on full . “ 6:02 AM EST ” was fast - pace and full of insane twists – but also full of deep respect for the characters and their chronicle . There were tons of picayune address to past episodes like “ White Tulip ” and “ The Firefly , ” which help cement our sense that the rapid decisions the characters were making had amount from all the stuff and nonsense they ’d been through .

In “ 6:02 AM EST , ” Walternate and Walter both decide to sacrifice Peter for the good of their world – and it does n’t seem to work out that not bad for either of them . First Walternate figures out that he can extrapolate enough of his Logos ’s DNA from his grandson to activate the ancient creation - juicing machine . This do “ our ” universe to get going breaking down : sheep go loopy and then are evaporate , bats and locust fly out of control , whole forests are wiped out . ( It ’s interesting that sheep are among the first victim of the machine , since the other universe has no sheep . ) look with an impossible situation , Walter reluctantly agrees to let Peter strain and shut down the cosmos - juicing machine from our side .

Unfortunately , activate the machine seems to cause breakdown in our cosmos , but does n’t appear to be improving the stability on the other side . ( You have to wonder if Walternate “ cheated ” on the big choice Peter was suppose to make , so he does n’t get the expected benefit . ) And when Peter steps up to the machine , it pooh-pooh him so violently , he ’s knocked on his ass . Peter ’s impart in a comatoseness , and both Walters are give fumble for a way to save their world .

The sequence does a large job of place out the relationship between the Walters , the Olivias and the one and only Peter . In our reality , we see Olivia and Peter ultimately sharing a bed , and looking quite cozy … except that it ’s Tuesday , the day Walter roams around the house naked , making revolting mushroom innuendos . Peter and Olivia seem to have worked through their trust return , thanks to Peter recognizing Olivia ’s inner tyke last hebdomad . It ’s all so unadulterated , you know it ’s all going to go down the tubes soon enough .

Meanwhile , on the other side , Fauxlivia is in full bonded with her new baby , Henry , who ’s one of the most scarily calm infant on television . And Walternate still feels warmly towards the mother of his grandchild – even after she question his decision to set off the universe - juicing motorcar . And Walternate has amply eliminate the Word he spent so many years searching for , saying “ Peter choose to leave . He chose his allegiance . ” But Fauxlivia still has potent feelings for Peter – strong enough to make her go rogue and attempt to hybridize universes to bring him back so he can stop all this universe - juicing gimcrack .

( How many masses , watch this episode , thought Fauxlivia was going to succeed in crossing over , so she could find Peter just in clip to talk him out of going inside the auto ? There was a nice bit of misdirection there – it seemed like something would happen to delay Peter ’s big moment of ego - forfeit until the season stopping point , but then it die ahead and happened last night anyway . )

So Fauxlivia judge to steal a duad of universe - traversing sceptre , only to happen upon that they do n’t quite work . ( And prissy explanation , by the direction , for why Walternate was so desperate to discover the secrets of cortexiphan when he already had a method acting of crossing between universes . ) Fauxlivia ’s plan fails , and she winds up in what attend like the same cell the other Olivia was interlace in last class . And Walternate recount her there ’s a parallel between them – he was unforced to sacrifice his son to make unnecessary the reality , she was willing to bequeath her son behind to go get Peter .

Olivia , meanwhile , finally get word the truth about Sam Weiss ’ prediction that whichever Olivia won Peter ’s heart would also keep her existence . ( A prediction that we ’re all probably beaming turned out not to be true . ) Nina Sharp in conclusion comes clean about Sam Weiss being the mysterious author of those “ First People ” books – but Sam has disappeared , because he was warned of the issue forth disasters by the click - clapper valve 1970s authority balls in his drawer . Olivia has to go look for for Sam , but then he flex up just as she ’s giving up hope . Sam tells Olivia to take him to the machine , and that she has to trust him . But the real genius of the episode , not surprisingly , comes from John Noble , trifle two tormented versions of Walter . Walternate quotes Oppenheimer and broadly speaking shows every sign of being racked with guilt for destroying an intact world , but he live with his guilt with the same restive , pent-up position he greet every other emotion with . By contrast , Walter is operatic in his grief and despair at get to let Peter go to what he thinks is his death . After months of Walter agonise over Peter ’s fate , we see it all come to a head , and acceptance does not come easy for Walter . The clip up top , where Walter talk to Broyles about it , is startlingly strike , as Walter try for Walternate ’s stoicism and falls far brusque .

It all culminates in the chapel service scene , where Walter has a long conversation with God , the entity whose existence he wasdenying so vigorouslya couple years ago . Walter believe that God had forgive him for his inexcusable crimes because of the white tulip he let in the mail – not agnise the white tulip was actually a resultant of Robocop ’s timey wimey . Walter in the end accepts that he ca n’t be forgive , his sin are too great , but he begs God to spare his world – and honestly , let ’s desire that ’s as far as this show go into spirituality . We still retrieve the unearthly Bible - toting FBI agent from time of year two , even if we ca n’t actually remember her name .
