It sounds like something out of scientific discipline fiction;splicingDNA from one animal into another to make some sort of genetic hybrid , butPeng Peng the sheep has made it science fact . The adorable newly - clone lamb has become the first sheep to have a fleck of a louse splice into him , making him the very first dirt ball - sheep on the planet .
OK , it ’s not like he slide around on the level like a befuddled louse or anything ; in fact you ca n’t tell that he ’s a genetic hybrid from just looking at him . But he ’s the first of his kind .
Formosan researcher have demand a gene from the role model organismC. elegans , anematode worm , and blended it with Peng Peng ’s DNA . The gene essentially makes him better to feed , getting him to produce“good ” fatrather than ananimal ’s standard “ risky ” fat . The star investigator behind the project , Du Yutao from theBeijing Genomics Institutein Shenzhen , tell Reuters :

“ The gene was originally from the C. elegans ( ringworm ) , which has been shown ( in former studies ) to increase unsaturated fatty acids which is very good for human health . ”
Basically the Chinese are trying to make eating lamb best for you , and why not ? We ’ve almost cause used to the thought of eating genetically modified crops that are respectable for you , or that grow better – so why not make your kernel better for your wellness too ? If they can make lamb , beef or any other inwardness that ’s as good for you for you as vegetables it ’s a win - win situation – even if it ’s a insect - sheep chop shot you ’re munching on .
