Fujifilm denote the F40fd ( at left ) a few days before CES , and we get our first chance today to caress it . The gravid improvement from its herald is the slimmer figure . We sleep together the old FinePix F31fd ( right ) that boasts a stratospheric ISO 3200 sensitivity ( and actually look good up to at least up to ISO 800 ) . It also produces crisp detail and gorgeous color . Not so loveable , though , is its soggy physique measuring 1.1 inches dense — which made it surd to slip into a pocket .
The F40fd slims down to a sylphlike .9 inches and up the resolving power from 6.3 to 8.3 megapixels . Like the F31fd , it includes Fujifilm ’s expression - sleuthing technology , which can distinguish up to 10 mugs and aline focal point and promiscuous metering so they come out clearly in the pictorial matter . ( At least it worked with composition board cutout of faces in a demo . ) And it ’s one of Fujifilm ’s first new cameras that swallow Coyote State remembering cards ( in plus to the white elephant xD type that Fujifilm has so stubbornly stick by ) .
Using its face - sleuthing foo , the F40fd can automatically raise cropped trailer and copy of picture to create portraits of each somebody in a chemical group dead reckoning . And if you print directly from the camera ( sans PC ) it will kick out as many copies of a mental picture as there are nerve in it . The camera can play slideshows from the memory posting , and it automatically rotate photos taken in portrayal mode so nothing ends up move sideways across the CRT screen . Fujifilm did drop the maximum ISO from 3200 to 2000 . But since 3200 was useless on the F30 anyway , it ’s not much of a departure .

The F40fd goes on sales agreement in March for $ 300 .
