The singer and ex-soccer club chairman, 76, said in a new interview withBBCthat it’s “fantastic" that Reynolds, 47, has become a co-owner of Wrexham AFC.“It’s great. I phoned Ryan when they won and they got promoted, and I just think it’s fantastic,” John told the outlet, referring to the team’s National League win in April.

Johnpreviously owned Watford FCin the U.K. under the management of late ex-soccer player Graham Taylor.
The “Rocketman” singer first bought and became Chairman of the club in 1976, before then selling the team in 1990 and buying the club back in 1997. John finally exited as chairman in 2002.

John’s latest interview comes after the singer revealed earlier this month thathe is releasing new music.
He shared during a speech at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, that he has completed his new album with his longtime songwriting partner,Bernie Taupin, as he gave a speech inducting Taupin, 73, into theRock and Roll Hall of Fame.
“We’ve just finished an album in Los Angeles, which is going to surprise the s— out of you,” John said infan-recorded footagefrom the ceremony.

“It’s absolutely wonderful, and it’s full of youth, and it’s full of vitality. It’s a wonderful place to be after we’ve been together for 56 years,” he teased.
Taupin previouslytold PEOPLEin September that he and John would “definitely make another record.”
“There’s no doubt about that. Just because he isn’t touring doesn’t mean he is fading to black. He’s still going to be very much active in other areas,” he said.
