District 9’s Director Tells Us All About His Alien Back Story

At Comic - Con , we interview Neill on camera , and he mentioned his hive mind concept about the aliens of District 9 . after on , we get to press further about the entire exotic humans that Neill had built around his alien animate being , past the hive .

What is your own back story for these aliens ? What ’s their home major planet like ? Why did the destruction up on Earth ?

The hive mind [ construct ] is the most important thing to me , because I sleep together the idea of a civilization that can build all of that engineering and then , at the same clock time , just have a massive population that was just drone that involve centering , and were utterly incapable of building that stuff on their own . I establish that to be a really interesting concept . Also , it sort of excuse why they do n’t turn on the homo . Individually , they may be feeling oppressed , but they do n’t have it together enough to form a resistor and back one another . So I find that really interesting .

I think that they do have a home planet , it ’s moderately far out probably in the Andromeda Galaxy , but what I care is that they ’ll live on the ship for thousands of years . plain , there ’s much more of a population on the main major planet , but the ships will go out and get the minerals and the ore and whatever resourcefulness they need and then bring them all back home .

The other thing is that the ship was meant to clip together with other ships . So there ’s , like , Brobdingnagian total of resourcefulness that they ’re bringing to the parent planet . And the ship , when the army generals or the queen of that particular ship die off by some sort of virus or bacterium that they picked up on some other planet , that killed them off . And it did n’t effect these sort of resilient , hardy sort of drone worker . Then the engineering science is usually the thing that they relied on to make unnecessary them , but in this case it sort of have sex them because it brought them to a planet that sort of treat them pretty badly , but it was the ship that realized that , unless it bugger off to a life sustaining satellite everything is going to pass , which is a cool musical theme . So the ship just auto pilots to the closest one in the Goldilocks dance orchestra , and it ’s our planet and then pulls up and impinge on the breaks .

I think it ’s taken 20 years . I cerebrate because there is a subconscious beehive mind happening , really what they should do is lay one egg that has a different embryo in it that grows into a pansy or being someone that dictates management . But I cerebrate in the interim , because they may have done that , there may be an ball out there with that , but as that being is growing , I just like the idea that he may have been a lot more undirected in the starting time . But the beehive structure of their society may just beak one or two that start to become the leader . Like the overall structure of his brain may change because the hive may want that to happen . So he commence get a direction and a destination . Which is an interesting idea and it ’s just enough to recoil jump them to be able to get to the ship to get back .
