When architecture studentYi Yvonne Wengconsiders the future of the Amazon rainforest , she picture a blank space that has not fallen to disforestation , but has or else been preserved for scientific geographic expedition . And that exploration takes placeon vast , mesh canopiesthat stretch across the crown .
Weng just received the 2012 Foster + Partners Prize for her project , “ The 6th Layer – Expolorative Canopy Trail . ” Seeking to make a non - trespassing way to search the rainforest , Weng proposed deploy ultra - lightweight interlocking canopy over portions of the treetops . Using the natural outer space between trees , long mesh nest would drop down further into the forest and end in little capsule , allow adventurer to go through the forest from a unlike angle . Weng explain her purpose behind the project :
Programmatically , the project is rivet on scientific exploration and harvesting medicinal plant , which provides an alternative use of the forest without destroying it . At the same time , the incontrovertible line of work of the territory it enable could put up a horizontal surface of surveillance that helps to protect both the endangered environment and the autochthonal population .

Based on the concept art , Weng intends for adventurer to get from canopy to canopy by hot air balloon , making the experience seem altogether magic .
