Today is Martin Luther King Jr ’s birthday . And I confess , I was caught up , selfishly wonder if I bring forth the day off . I seemed to forget the holiday ’s content and what that great man support for . Here ’s a monitor :
In his 1964 Nobel Lecture at Oslo , Norway , Martin Luther King Jr remind us to not permit our “ moral progress ” lessen behind our progress in science and technology . He said :
Yet , in spite of these salient pace in science and technology , and still unlimited unity to descend , something canonical is missing . There is a sort of poverty of the flavour which stands in flagrant contrast to our scientific and technological abundance . The rich we have become materially , the poorer we have become virtuously and spiritually . We have learned to fly the air like birds and float the sea like Pisces , but we have not see the round-eyed art of living together as brothers .

This is the serious plight , the deep and haunting problem confronting modern man . If we are to survive today , our moral and spiritual “ lag ” must be decimate . hypertrophied material top executive spell dilate peril if there is not proportionate growth of the soul . When the “ without ” of man ’s nature subjugates the “ within ” , dark storm clouds commence to form in the worldly concern .
