TheSan Antonio Zoohas welcomed some new furry additions!
The “inquisitive mammals” will now be making a home in the Kronkosky’s Tiny Tot Nature Spot at the zoo, according to an announcement shared onX (formerly Twitter).
“These little meerkat babies are an absolute delight,” said zoo President and CEO Tim Morrow. “We are thrilled to offer our visitors the opportunity to witness these captivating animals up close and personally. Their return after almost three decades is a testament to our commitment to providing diverse and educational experiences for our guests.”
Alongside the meerkat announcement, the zoo shared an adorable video featuring a compilation of new meerkat memories — from the babies emerging from underground, standing on two legs, following each other around, leaping over sticks and emerging from little holes together in the dirt.
The San Antonio Zoo’s reopening of the meerkat habitat will be celebrated at Zoo Boo — an annual Halloween-themed celebration on-site, featuring treats and family activities.
Zoo Boo is free for members of the zoo and takes place each day of the week. Per the zoo, the event “provides the perfect opportunity for visitors of all ages to immerse themselves in the spirit of Halloween while also experiencing the charm and charisma of these unique meerkat babies.”

The 48-year-old Asian elephant, who was part of a trio of elephants dubbed the Golden Girls, lost her two friends in 2022, and was sent to a sanctuary in Tennessee to live out the rest of her years.
Morrow, who said the three elephants “inspired visitors to care for and want to protect elephants from extinction,” shared that the zoo was “grateful for the years [Nicole] spent with us as one of the Golden Girls.”
Nicole joined nine other elephants at her new home, all between the ages of 37 and 60.
