Three innocent people were killed and seven were injured when an active shooter opened fire Friday morning on a naval base in Pensacola, Florida, authorities said at a Friday press conference.
Escambia County Sheriff David Morgan said the shooter is dead, and that a member of the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office “negated the threat.”
Calls for an active shooter at the Naval Air Station Pensacola came in at 6:51 a.m., authorities said, adding that the shooting occurred in one of the classrooms on the compound, which serves as a training base.
Two responding officers who engaged the suspect were shot but they are expected to fully recover.
Describing the horror of the scene, Morgan said, “Walking through the crime scene was like being on the set of a movie.”
He said authorities have no reason to believe there were other shooters.
The base has been shut down until further notice, said authorities.
